A Hike in Ramsey Park

By Rhonda Fitzgerald-Hunter

Balmy Spring day, perfect for a hike to the waterfall in Ramsey Park.

Choices, paved concrete, or dirt-packed path

Natural less traveled path called out to me

Lush green undergrowth, meandering trout-filled river, peace to my soul

Canopy of Redwood trees shade the path, and hide critters abound

Muscles burning, breath heavy as I ascend

Clean, fresh air fills my chest

Wary of the suspension bridge, eyes straight

Narrow dirt path, no railings or walls to prevent a perilous fall

Majestic Redwood trees cover the edge of the cliffs

Deceptive murky, still water flows its edge

30 ft cascade of frothing water crashes into the rock-walled gorge

To the meandering river below, murky brown, yet translucent

Brilliant colors of dark browns, light sepias mixed, twinges of rusted orange

Endurance rewarded by a view that did not disappoint.
